Latin Letters
Our History
In 2006, the Library of Latin Letters was inaugurated as a project of the ALAC, Inc. to preserve our language and share our cultural heritage, our community, and to integrate with it to New Zealand.
It is the first community library in Spanish and Portuguese, and not need to live in Auckland to be a member. Library in Latin Letters communicates with its members in various ways, face to face, attending the premises where the library functions in the basement of the Office of the ALAC, Inc. in Onehunga, online or by email biblioteca.letraslatinas@gmail.com, or receiving or returning books by mail, which is economical and reliable,
In 2014, it is created in Latin Letters Publishing House, the editor of the Library and ALAC Inc. That year he published, Toccata to the Public & Other Poems, by the chilean poet-american Stephen A. Espinoza. That same year, a call was made for the contest of short story that had the participation of 88 writers, were selected as 5 and their stories were published in a book called a Short Story competition, in Spanish and English. Twelve Heaven/Twelve Heavens (anthology, trilingual in Te Reo, English and Spanish), for which they were selected 8 poets māori released in 2016. Living the life, (a selection of stories and poesìas of 18 writers who were in New Zealand) the book was prefaced by Dr. Professor Walescka Pino-Ojeda, and dedicated to Patricia Dávila, one of the founding members of the ALAC, Inc. and the sufraguistas of New Zealand, (the first women in the world who fought for and won women's right to vote). These literary creations were presented in Spanish and English, and released in 2018.
In 2019, ALAC, Inc. meets its 25th anniversary, and exhibits their actions and achievements of those 25 years, its history and its work for and by the Community.
Since 2011, we have opened book clubs in Auckland, Club Reader Hawke''s Bay, a Literary Gathering of Wellington and the Book Club of New Plymouth. These clubs operate once a month, and have different coordinators, days and times that you can access.
